Online Course Participation
Online education affords students great flexibility in managing their time. However, academic success requires that students engage in learning activities regularly and participate in meaningful interactions with faculty and fellow students. Students are required to login to their class regularly and submit assignments in a timely manner, or they may risk being withdrawn for lack of attendance. For each course initial attendance is recorded when a student logs into their class and completes a learning activity within the Learning Management System (LMS).
Students who have only viewed the syllabus but make no other substantive participation for the rest of the course are not considered enrolled. Attendance in subsequent weeks/modules is recorded by a student completing a learning activity (inside of Canvas, not in 3rd party platforms). The act of logging in each week does not constitute attendance; the student must participate by either engaging in the discussion board or submitting a graded assignment to be considered present for that week/module. There might be learning activities that are completed outside of the LMS that unfortunately won't capture attendance. There will be at least one assignment per week loaded directly into the LMS to ensure the student is able to receive the weekly attendance. Once a student has logged into their class and completed a learning activity or assignment, they are considered officially enrolled in the course and expected to complete the entire course. Failure to post attendance for two consecutive weeks may subject the student to immediate withdrawal. Students are expected to complete assignments according to the course syllabus page. Refer to the Make-up work policy below for additional details on missed coursework. Students must show attendance within the first three days of the course or they are subject to withdrawal from the course. Specific due dates are listed below.
Build Rapport
If you find that you have any trouble keeping up with assignments or other aspects of the course, make sure you let your instructor know as early as possible. As you will find, building rapport and effective relationships are key to becoming an effective professional. Make sure that you are proactive in informing your instructor when difficulties arise during the term so that we can help you find a solution.
Submissions
- Submitted papers must be a Word Document .DOC or .DOCX format unless another format is specifically requested in the assignment directions.
- Submissions may not include text turned into an image.
Make-up work
- Graded work not submitted by the due date will not be eligible for a grade. You will receive a zero (0) for missed classwork.
- Discussion Boards are not eligible for makeup. They must be completed the week they are open.
- If you have prior knowledge of a significant life event (i.e. jury duty, medical procedure, military duty, etc.) requiring an extended period away from a computer you may request early access to a module and its assignments. With approval these advance submissions will be accepted without penalty.
- If you miss the due date for graded work you may request an extensions only if you have a significant and documentable event that prevented you from submitting the work by the due date. This extension request must be submitted to your Instructor with the documentation not later than 48 hours after the original due date. Only request with documentation will be reviewed.
- In no case will an extension be granted to extend the due date after the last day of the term in which the work was originally due unless an incomplete (I) grade is issued for the course. Please refer to your campus catalog for information on Incompletes.
Working Ahead
- If you have prior knowledge of a significant life event (i.e. jury duty, medical procedure, military duty, etc.) requiring an extended period away from a computer you may request early access to a module and its assignments. With approval these advance submissions will be accepted without penalty. This does not include vacations.
- Students may not submit work for a future week without prior approval. Doing so indicates the approval of a self-paced course, which Concorde does not offer.
- Work that is submitted for future weeks, without prior approval may be deleted from the submission area and required to be re-submitted during the appropriate week/module. Repeated offenses may earn a score of 0.
Discussion Boards
Initial Discussion board post not made by the due date will receive a deduction of 5% per day as long as it’s submitted before the last day of the assigned module (exceptions will be given for Module 1). Students will receive a zero grade for the week if no posting to the Discussion Board is made.
Commit to Integrity
Success in your career is almost as dependent on professional behavior as on your academic knowledge and abilities. Students are expected to exhibit professional behavior in all activities associated with this course. Professional behavior includes:
- Punctual – The student adheres to all time requirements for class activities or informs the instructor in a timely manner of unavoidable situations that cause the student to be late or miss deadlines.
- Dependable – The student meets deadlines, follows assignments and responsibilities through to completion, and shows evidence of learning via class participation. The student is responsible for the information contained in the syllabus as well as Concorde Career Colleges policies, which includes the college catalog and the student handbook.
- Respectful – The student does not communicate in a condescending, offensive and/or disparaging comment(s) on the Discussion Board, Chat Room, or in Doc Sharing. If the instructor feels that inappropriate communication is occurring, the communication will be removed and a private conversation will be held with the posting student(s) for possible disciplinary action in accordance with Concorde Career Colleges policies, which can be found in the college catalog and the student handbook.
- Ethical – The student is honest, has integrity, and maintains confidentiality
of patient, provider, fellow student, and college information. - Interpersonal and Team Skills – The student relates well to people, deals tactfully and effectively with others, influences as opposed to directs or demands, provides constructive criticism without alienating others, negotiates or mediates when appropriate, exhibits openness to new ideas, and demonstrates a positive attitude.
Scholastic Honesty
It is assumed that all students are enrolled in class to learn; therefore, cheating is not an acceptable practice. Dishonesty of any type in a course, including cheating on examinations or plagiarizing materials, can result in a grade of “F” and may be cause for suspension and/or withdrawal from school. Plagiarism includes passing off or attempting to pass off the ideas or writing of another person or any artificial intelligence (AI) as one’s own. If it is not your original thoughts/experience then you must give credit to the author. The use of any AI tool is prohibited. Plagiarism also includes using personal papers submitted for a prior class, a repeated class, or even work submitted at a different institution. Students are prohibited from operating any type of audio or video recording device in a classroom, laboratory, or clinical setting without prior expressed permission from the Campus President or Academic Dean. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: video cameras, telephones with audio or video recording capability, computers, electronic tablets, or watches with audio or video recording capability. This is not an all-inclusive list. Violations of this policy may lead to disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal from school. If you are not certain, ASK.
